WASHINGTON, detak24.com – The United States (US) government on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) local time released the official text of a peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran. The document contains 14 points covering various issues that form the basis for ending the conflict between the two countries.
The 14 points agreed upon by Washington and Tehran include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the easing of several economic restrictions on Iran, and a framework for negotiations regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
The document, titled the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” between the US and Iran, was made public after criticism that the text of the agreement had not been made public, as reported by CNN.
A senior US administration official said the peace memorandum of understanding is a first step toward ending tensions and paving the way for a more comprehensive agreement.
“Essentially, this is an agreement that allows us to immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, requires Iran to destroy its nuclear arsenal, and then gives us control whereby if Iran improves its good behavior, we will respond with increased economic assistance and sanctions relief that can make it a more prosperous country,” the senior US official said.
The memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be formally signed on Friday (June 19, 2026) in Geneva, Switzerland. The signing will begin a 60-day period of negotiations to formulate a final agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Quoting The Independent, Thursday (June 18, 2026), here are the details of the 14 points contained in the US-Iran peace memorandum of understanding that have been confirmed by senior US administration officials to the media.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, along with their allies in the current war, declare upon signing this MoU an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and undertake from now on not to initiate war or any military operations against each other and to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other and to ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
The final agreement will confirm the permanent cessation of war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and the other provisions of this paragraph.
The United States and Iran pledge to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.
The United States and Iran commit to negotiations and reach a final agreement within a maximum of 60 days.

Following the signing of this MoU, Iran will make its best efforts to ensure the smooth and free passage of merchant vessels for a period of only 60 days from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa. Merchant vessel passage will commence immediately, taking into account the need to remove technical and military obstacles and mine clearance by Iran, which will be carried out within 30 days. Iran will engage in dialogue with Oman to determine the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in discussions with other Persian Gulf littoral states, in accordance with applicable international law and the sovereign rights of the littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States, along with its regional partners, is committed to developing a definitive, mutually agreed plan with a minimum of $300 billion for the reconstruction and development of Iran’s economy. The implementation mechanism for this plan will be finalized as part of the final agreement within 60 days. All necessary licenses, exemptions, and permits for related financial transactions will be granted by the United States.
The US has pledged to end all sanctions against Iran, including UN Security Council resolutions, IAEA Board of Governors resolutions, and all unilateral US sanctions, both primary and secondary, according to the timetable agreed upon as part of the final agreement. Iran and the US recognize the importance of ending the aforementioned sanctions and express their intention to promptly address these issues in negotiations to reach a mutual agreement.
Iran reaffirms its commitment to neither acquiring nor developing nuclear weapons. The US and Iran have agreed to complete the disposal of stored enriched material in accordance with a mutually agreed upon mechanism, according to the timetable outlined in paragraph seven, with a minimum methodology of on-site mixing under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The two sides also agree to discuss enrichment and other mutually agreed matters related to Iran’s nuclear needs, within a satisfactory framework agreed upon in the final agreement. The final agreement will confirm the provisions of this paragraph. The US and Iran recognize the importance of the aforementioned nuclear issues and express their intention to promptly address these issues in negotiations to reach a mutual agreement.

The United States undertakes that immediately upon the signing of this MoU and until the sanctions are lifted, the US Treasury Department will issue waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and derivatives, as well as all related services, including banking, insurance, transportation, and other transactions.
The United States undertakes to fully release any frozen or restricted Iranian funds and assets for use following the implementation of this MoU. The United States and Iran will mutually agree on procedures for the release of these funds during negotiations. These funds, whether held in their original accounts or transferred, will be fully available for payment to the final beneficiaries designated by Iran’s central bank. The United States undertakes to issue all necessary licenses and authorizations in accordance with the terms.
The United States and Iran agree that an executive mechanism will be established to monitor the successful implementation of the MoU and future compliance with the final agreement.
Following the signing of the memorandum of understanding, subject to the commencement of implementation of paragraphs 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 of this MoU, and the continued implementation of these measures, the US and Iran will begin negotiations on a final agreement exclusively covering the remaining paragraphs.
The final agreement will be ratified by a binding United Nations Security Council resolution.
Previously, Trump officially signed the peace agreement (MoU) with Iran on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) local time on the sidelines of a state dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Shortly after Trump signed in France, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed a similar document in Farsi in Tehran. Iran’s state news agency, IRNA, immediately released photographic evidence on Thursday (June 18, 2026) showing Pezeshkian holding the 14-point document with the signatures of both heads of state at the bottom.
The exchange of digital and physical copies serves as concrete evidence that the 800-word peace agreement document is now officially valid and binding. (Ist)
