First in 1,000 Years, British Royal Palace Holds Iftar

LONDON, detak24com – For the first time in its 1,000-year history, Windsor Castle, the official residence of the British Royal Family, held a Ramadan fast-breaking event.

The historic event took place on Tuesday (4/3/2025) at St George’s Hall, attended by more than 350 participants from various backgrounds.

The call to prayer echoed throughout the building as a sign of the time to break the fast. Guests enjoyed dates and said prayers before the main meal was served.

The fast-breaking event was held free of charge by the Ramadan Tent Project, a London-based charity. One of the participants of the fast-breaking event held by the British Kingdom expressed his amazement to the BBC by saying that the atmosphere of the event was extraordinary and felt like a dream.

Simon Maples, Director of Visitor Operations at Windsor Castle, stated that King Charles III has long supported religious diversity and encouraged interfaith dialogue. St George’s Hall itself is usually used to host heads of state and official British Royal events.

Many participants felt that the fast-breaking event at Windsor Castle was an unforgettable experience. “We never thought we would be here to break our fast. We have come a long way,” said a Muslim woman who attended.

Another, a history student, expressed her happiness at being able to combine her Muslim identity with her love of history, calling this opportunity a privilege.

Not only that, some participants even invited King Charles III to join the breaking of the fast during Ramadan.

Omar Salha, founder and CEO of the Ramadan Tent Project, praised King Charles III as a great ambassador for community unity. “We are very grateful for his support for the British Muslim community,” he said.

This event is open to people from all religions and backgrounds. Participants who want to join simply register, then tickets will be drawn due to the high enthusiasm of the community.

In the future, the Royal Collection Trust and the Ramadan Tent Project plan to hold more breaking of the fast events in various locations in the UK. Some of the places that will host include the Tokyo Globe, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and Lord’s Cricket Ground.

In addition to the breaking of the fast held by the British Royal Family, there will be at least 18 locations for breaking the fast together in this year’s project. The culmination of the event will take place in Trafalgar Square, London, on March 29, 2025. (*)
